this is me. truth.
i am a graduate of mount holyoke college, class of 2015, with a bachelor of the arts degree in psychology and spanish. while college was a time for personal growth and the development of a further understanding of who i am and who i want to become, my inner driving force was uncovered years before. kindergarten. as a half-pint i insisted that i would become an artist when i grew up, and that is something that i strive to achieve.
for the last year or so, I have been working for an urban squash program in pittsburgh, pa, called steel city squash, where i am the squash director. besides being a big kid who teaches smaller kids to play squash, i have also developed our mentor program, created our company website, and designed our promotional products. throughout these processes, i have done extensive outreach and networking, to provide the best opportunities for our squashers and for our organization as a whole.
in college i was a two-sport athlete: a four-year member of the varsity squash team and a one-year member of the varsity lacrosse team. athletics have always played a vital role in my life, helping me to sprout both physically and mentally. it is through my athletic experiences that i have learned to be an inclusive and open-minded leader and team member, while also gaining skills such as the ability to adapt
to different environments and to manage various types of relationships and personalities. these are all traits that i hope to instill in my students, as i work to expose them to knew cultures and new ideas.
in my every day life, i find myself drawn to the arts and the creative industry. personal reflection has allowed me the space to understand the role of esthetics in my perspective of my surroundings. i realize that i love creating beautiful things for others to enjoy. i thrive when given the opportunity to restore something to its original beauty, to be strategic in my approach to the world around me, to stress the importance of the individual needs of
others, to be a fierce competitor, and to be deliberative in the the planning of my work and the achievement of goals.
the world of design appeals to me because it focuses on how users interact and engage with a product and their environment. this interest was reinforced while at mount
holyoke through courses in both studio art and in complex organizations. my post-graduate life has allowed me to expand on my appreciation of how light affects a space, how colors interact with each other, and how a creative work of art can elicit a bajillion different emotions the eyes of it's viewer.
so what are my goals? for starters, i aim to develop my creative instincts by learning from the expertise of others. i want to use my strengths and knowledge, combined with my multifaceted liberal arts education to inspire innovative problem-solving strategies that demonstrate a human-centered design process.
